About Kate

Teaching English is not just a job for me. It is a “labor of love,” which gives me the opportunity to share American language and culture with people from around the world.
I have been tutoring since 2001, and I have a Master’s degree in Teaching ESL. I was an English instructor at the City University of New York (CUNY) for many years. In 2015, I decided to focus on private tutoring. I am lucky to be doing my “dream job” every day!
I am a native American English speaker who speaks standard American English, so I do not have a regional accent.
I think it is important for a language teacher to understand the struggles of a language student. Therefore, I have been studying Japanese since 2007. I even have my own Japanese tutor! It is a fascinating challenge, and it helps me understand the perspective of adult language learners. Learning Japanese has also shown me how language and culture are connected. I understand that learning a language is a cultural experience, not only a linguistic experience.
